It’s a new year and that means a lot of you out there will be in the market to get it together and get yourself organized. Getting organized, for many of us, means using a personal planner — to keep up with the all tasks that make up our hectic lives. If you’re a planner junkie, like me, then you will no doubt know all about the Erin Condren LifePlanner, a top end life organizer that comes with an array of customizing options and cute accessories like stickers, carrying cases and felt tipped pens.
E.C. LifePlanners have fans across the world, including myself, who use them to keep track of everything from personal schedules to academic timetables, workout schedules and so much more. For the last two years now I myself have depended on my E.C. LifePlanner to keep me on track in an increasingly chaotic life, and I’m happy to say she’s never (really) let me down.
But is the 2019 Erin Condren LifePlanner the right one for you?
The 2019 Erin Condren LifePlanner (with Horizontal Layout)
Now, disclaimer: I’m one of those wacky weirdos that prefers a horizontal layout. (I know, I know, E.C. Faithful. It drives me crazy too.) That being said, this review is strictly for the horizontal layout of the 2019 Erin Condren LifePlanner, as it differs slightly from the vertical layout which is also offered. (Find a review of the horizontal planner here.)
The new 2019 Erin Condren LifePlanner comes packaged as expected in beautiful packaging that almost looks more like a gift box than mere shipping material. The planner comes safely wrapped in tissue paper and cradled in thick air bubble support, and as usual there a few free goodies thrown in to make the deal all that much sweeter.
These planners functions on a few different levels and one of the best things about them is how customizable they really are for your personal needs. On the most basic level, they function as a calendar, offering your yearly, monthly and weekly views that allow to plan your year in advance and keep track of important schedules, tasks and events. On the second level, they’re a scrap book, filled with wonderful stickers and space for you to get as creative and decorative as you want. I picked the horizontal planner because it really capitalized on this customizing option (for me) and gave me room to play around with my own formats, layout and designs to help keep me on track and organized.
The third level these planners operate on is goal setting and management. The 2019 Erin Condren LifePlanner comes with 4 note pages, 4 bullet pages and a full notes page at the start of every month. This allows you to create space for goal setting and tracking, as well as financial and health trackers. It also comes packed full of inspirational quotes (and stickers) that are sure to perk you up and get you interested in the day and your goals.
There are a few differences, though, in this new 2019 LifePlanner, a few of which are great and a few of which are not so great…
A few differences this year…
Erin Condren Designs has definitely listened to users and made some upgrades to the LifePlanner this year. A few of these changes are great and a few of these changes are meh, but they (mostly) still make for a great planner that will really get you inspired to plan.
The main changes are pretty basic and nothing to write home about:
- No more monthly goal / highlights, just a single solid note page at the start of each month.
- More subdued color and decoration.
- Different stickers and sticker styles.
- A miniature preview of the next month on each monthly calendar.
Other changes included 3 coloring pages, versus last year’s 4 coloring pages, and only a single quotes page at the front of the LifePlanner. The best change, by far though, is the new “Let’s Stay In Touch” contacts page which has taken the place of the last coloring page, giving you the perfect place to keep important contacts at hand for when that iPhone battery (inevitably) goes dead.
The good things stay the same…
Overall, the 2019 Erin Condren LifePlanner is the same as last year. Boasting the same size, it still features interchangeable covers that snap into place relatively easy (if not done frequently.) It also still features a colorful and inspirational quote at the beginning of each new month, as well as a beautiful and spacious 2 page calendar that really allows you to get a full check in on the month ahead.
I’m pretty pleased with the 2019 Erin Condren LifePlanner. Thanks to a sale, I sprung for the metallic foil cover and the colorful spread and have already started to customize my planner to fit my needs. This year, I’m adding a health and fitness goal spread, as well as a “Books to Read” in 2019 spread that I’m really excited to work on over the coming year. If you’re looking for a high quality planner with plenty of room (and accessories) to let you go to town all while keeping up with your hectic schedule — then this is the planner for you.
WARNING TO INTERNATIONAL BUYERS:
This review wouldn’t be complete without issuing a warning to international buyers.
I fell in love with E.C. LifePlanners while living in America. When I decided to purchase my first planner last year, it was delivered to the U.K. via FedEx and was a quick and painless process that avoided the nightmare of customs altogether. This year was a different case. After making my purchase, I was sad to discover that Erin Condren Designs has now switched to DHL as their international courier, and the process was a nightmare from beginning to end.
After waiting for one month, I contacted DHL to try and figure out where my planner was. DHL responded promptly and revealed that the package had never been send from the Erin Condren Warehouse. After contacting Erin Condren, I got a very short response and the package was (eventually) sent out again, after which it arrived another month later with no tracking whatsoever. When it arrived at customs (via DHL) it was then hit with a customs charge which was almost the equivalent of the original purchase, which it had not done when shipped with FedEx the previous year. I suspect this has something to do with money going into the pockets of Erin Condren Designs or DHL, so tread with caution.
