Put Your Feet Up: Great Ways to Relax This Weekend

It’s the weekend and you know what that means. It’s time to relax! Relaxing can be tricky in this chaotic age, but it doesn’t have to be. So put your feet up and discover our best tips for getting your relax on this weekend!

Read a Book

One sure fire way to unwind and get relaxed is to crack open a good book. Take a short trip to the bookstore or just pull down that old book you’ve been meaning to read for years. It doesn’t matter what you read so long as you read it! This simple pleasure will really help you “put up your feet” and is a great way to spend some quality “alone time” with yourself.

Watch a Movie

Instead of binge watching that latest Netflix sitcom, try sitting down and watching a movie instead.┬áMovies have a wild way of transporting us in compelling and informative ways. They’re also just a great way to get out of the real world for a while, and allow us to generate and express our creativity.

One great way to unwind is to explore genres that you wouldn’t usually watch. This will really help keep you engaged and help pull you away from any looming distractions. Usually watch action films? Why not try a foreign film instead? Love rom-coms? Break out of the norm and try a horror film instead.

Camp or Hike

There’s nothing like reconnecting with nature to really break away from our modern lives and unwind for a bit. Turn off those notifications and really try to get out into the heart of local nature. Disconnecting with the modern world and reconnecting with the raw purity of nature will help you destress big time.

Exercise

You may not believe this one, but getting some exercise is a great way to relax. How you ask? Simple.

Exercising allows our body to not only release pent-up energy, but it also helps us release pent-up stress. Take out all those emotions from the week on the local gym, or go for an angry run through one of the local parks. You’ll be amazed how quickly you are able to relax and recover from a chaotic week.

Make Something

Expressing creativity is another great way to relax. Maybe do something elaborate like woodworking or do something as simple as draw a picture. Made a retro game console or knit a sweater. It really doesn’t matter. Whatever it is, expressing your creativity is a great way to release the some of the stress of living in the modern world.

Give Cooking a Try

Relaxing doesn’t have to mean laziness. The weekend is a great time to learn a new skill — one that will benefit you in the future. Cooking is just that skill.

Break out a recipe book and find a new recipe that you’ve never tried before. Start simple and work your way up to the harder stuff. This is another great way to escape while channeling your energies into a skill that can benefit you and your loved ones in the future.

Write

You don’t have to be Shakespeare, but writing is yet another great way to get to relaxing this weekend.

You can do something as simple as keeping a diary where you record and reflect on the days events. Or, if you’re up for a bit more of a challenge, you can start writing that novel you’ve always been dreaming of.
