Greenhouses aren’t just staples of sustainable living, they’re also some of the most beautiful structures on the planet. Check out my list of the most gorgeous greenhouses on the planet.
1. The Royal Greenhouse of Laeken
This enormous greenhouse is actually a series of greenhouses that composes 270,000 square feet of property on the grounds of the Royal Castle of Laeken in Brussels. Open to the public only 3 weeks out of the year, this one is harder to get to but more than worth the visit.
2. The New York Botanical Gardens
Boasting the largest Victorian-style glasshouse in the US, this is a garden and greenhouse experience you won’t want to miss. The gem of the experience – The Nolen Greenhouses for Living Collections – is situated over 43,000 square feet and has some of the most state-of-the-art greenhouse technology available, including open-roof ventilation, shade curtains and radiant heat flooring.
3. RHS Garden Wisely
Located in the southest of England, in Surrey, this garden showcases a stunning greenhouse that boasts a diverse array of plant life. Features within the greenhouse includes a large waterfall feature and pond feature, as well as trees, ferns, palms, cacti and succulents.
4. City Winter Garden (Helsinki)
This stunning greenhouse is one of our favorites. A popular meeting place for residents of Helsinki, Finland for more than a century, this greenhouse offers a toasty oasis in the depths of winter. There are more than 200 different varieties of plant to be discovered across 3 distinctly different climate-controlled rooms. That includes camellias that are more than 100 years old!
5. Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens
Rounding off our list of the most gorgeous greenhouses is none other than the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens outside of Cape Town, South Africa. The impressive glasshouse showcases plants found natively in South Africa, and you discover the plants in regions that correspond to their natural habitat in the country. For instance, if you wanted to see a plant normally found in the north of South Africa, you would visit the northernmost room of the greenhouse to view that plant. Outside of the glasshouse, the gardens offer stunning, panoramic views of the countryside, as well as various interactive exhibits and walking trails.
Which one is your favorite greenhouse? Have you visited any of the greenhouses mentioned here? Let us know in the comments below!
